Restoration of Telescoped Coil Used Within the Pipe Line Industry

At a steel mill, oscillation occurred during the winding of this hard pipeline steel coil leaving it in a "telescoped" condition. It did not pass quality inspection, and could not be shipped to the customer. Not willing to send valuable materials to the scrap heap without exploring alternatives, the steel mill placed a call to SOS Services, Inc. After assessing the damage, we recognized that the coil was easily repairable, and dispatched a service team with the equipment needed to get the job done.

Restoration of Telescoped Coil Used Within the Pipe Line Industry

Working outside in the coil yard to avoid disrupting normal plant operations, we utilized a truck-mounted PM Series 32 knuckle crane to lift our large mobile hydraulic press into position. With 1.2 million lbs. of pressure available, we hydraulically squeezed the coil back to an acceptable condition, with only a 1/8" variance on the side wall. It was then banded with A.A.R. - approved 2" x .044" steel strapping so it would maintain its corrected condition thru transit. The repaired coil, properly banded

Our skilled team, proprietary equipment and "safety first" approach, enabled us to restore this telescoped coil in much less time and at a fraction of the cost of re-manufacturing it.
